Story Logo, Version 1.0

I wanted my logo to also serve as the title to the story as well as the title of the book/manual that the boy is using. I searched for dragon rider pictures on Google and came across this ConceptArt user, handle Fingers. His sketchbook was very inspirational:

This was the image I found from my search:

I loved his use of outlines to create shape:

Finally, here are the original source images I used to compose my story logo:

And finally, here's the story logo, scaled down five times:

I thought it turned out pretty well. Ultimately, I would like to use something similar to texture the book or the manual that the boy looks like, perhaps change the font and spend a little more time on the dragon rider image itself.

I have to say, Photoshop has gotten a lot more fun since a year ago. Before I started this program, I barely knew what a layer was. Actually, before I came here I was more effective with Microsoft Paint than I was with Photoshop. And all you naysayers don't knock MS Paint, I still use it for screen grabs and quick crops and shapes.

Storyboards coming up next.

Great job with your logo! I really love your story idea, and I like the humor that you're incorporating into the story now. Since the main character is a child, humor seems like a good idea, because how serious is a dragon kit in the first place? I also really like the idea of the story being in modern times, is there anything you can do with your logo to show that? Keep up the good work!

Hey Jonathan.

Story is very cool. Agree with Nicolette RE logo. If you do the modern science kit thing, maybe put in the small print: "Cover illustration not to scale." Looking forward to dragon design development. Also, is the kid CG? Can't remember what you'd said... If not, do you have a kid in mind?

I like your logo, very Eragon meets Lord of the rings. I also think your story is interesting...hope you go with the dragon burning the boy to a crisp ending.

I love that first image you have of the dragon! I think this is going to be a great logo. For my part, I'd like to see more of the text. It feels like the background is a little big in proportion.

Yay dragons though! This is going to be such a great project.

Hi John,

I also love the logo. Sort of mysterious, but then you see the book. The book looks great. Alot of work! I like the modern ups idea and the burn simething to a crisp, but maybe not the kid??? Something around the kid maybe?? If you like burning the kid stick to it. I think it makes it way scary! That's good too though!

More of the same. It think the logo is great. I actually think the font and image on the left page are perfect. For me, I think of those sea monkeys ads that were on the back of those comic books and whatnot. As a kid you always imagined they would be larger than life. That's what I love about this story. Here it really is larger than life and it actually works.

I also love that first dragon image. Not too much detail and conveys just enough to the viewer.

This is going to be great.

In agreement with most of the things so far. The story is really solid, and you just need to nail down exactly how it is going to end. The thing you should keep in mind when deciding is what kind of story you want it to be, or what kind of message you want your story to send.

The logo looks good! My only comment is on that background texture. I'm not sure what you did to modify it in PS, but it looks indistinct. I can't tell if it's a metal table underneath the book, or are you just using it as filler?
On another note, have you designed the character yet. When you pitched the story, Dash from the Incredibles immediately popped into my mind. Especially since he always had that sinister smirk that looks like he's about to start some trouble.
